Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful inflammation of joints. There are many different types of arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis. In these conditions specific joints are affected, which can make it difficult to open a jar, tie your shoes and participate in sports or other enjoyable activities. Arthritis can also be migratory, meaning that the pain moves from joint to joint.

Case: Severe Joint Pain / Muscle Pain / Restless Leg Syndrome / Constipation

A 41-year old man complained of severe joint and muscle pains that started three years earlier. The pain was so severe that he said it felt like he his "whole body was in a pressure suit." He was unable to enjoy basic activities because of the pain. Additionally, he also suffered from insomnia, restless leg syndrome and constipation. It would take him an hour of lying in bed to fall asleep and his restless leg syndrome would wake him up multiple times during the night. He would only have a bowel movement every four to five days

His MetaCT 400 test results revealed:

Amino acid deficiencies

Mineral deficiency of manganese, which is required as an antioxidant
Deficiencies in antioxidants

Elevated 8-Hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, indicating free radical damage to DNA, a risk factor for cancer and other conditions
Low vitamin D
Low fatty acids (omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids). Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory.

Low sulfate, required for liver detoxification and for connective tissue formation
Food allergies

He was instucted to eliminate food allergies for 8 weeks while following a gut restoration program. Specific nutrients were also recommended to him as dietary supplements to correct his underlying deficiencies. After two weeks on the program, this gentleman reported that his restless leg syndrome decreased by 80%, he now longer experienced any insomnia, his muscle pain and cramps decreased by 70% and he no longer had any constipation. At the end of his program after three months, he reported that he no longer suffered from any restless leg syndrome, brain fog, constipation and muscle or joint pain. All of his initial complaints had completely resolved.

In an email thanking NBI Testing and Consulting Corp and Dr. Neustadt, he wrote:

"You can imagine my surprise when I received the reports from my MetaCT-400 lab study and discovered I was severely allergic to dairy products, egg yolks, egg whites, and peanuts. So prior to my scheduled consultation, I immediately stopped consuming these items and foods which contained these ingredients. Three days later, I felt like a new person. Most of the chronic muscle, bone, and joint aches I have been having for over 10 years went away. I felt stronger, lighter on my feet, and for the first time I tired out my children while playing with them outside. The "restless leg" condition I have been having at night stopped too. The slight depression I felt was lifted as well. I now sleep better, deeper, and wake up more refreshed. I have been to sleep studies and have seen many doctors, and nothing has helped as immediately and as noticeably as the removal of these foods from my diet.

"I would have considered the food allergy results alone a complete and overwhelming success. However, the lab study also identified excessive deficiencies in my amino acids, omega fatty acids, vitamin D, essential minerals, and elevated levels of free radical damage. A replenishment program was tailored around my requirements and allergies. There is so much to learn, but Dr. Neustadt and his staff make the process simple and easy to understand. Although there are some eating and exercise habits I must change, I look forward to the many added benefit this holistic approach to health care has to offer."

Case: Migratory Arthritis / Metabolic Syndrome (Pre-Diabetes) / Fatigue / Restlessness / Depression / Obesity

A 48 year old woman suffered for five years with migratory, polyarticular (multiple joints) pain throughout her body; however, the joints most affected were her knees, ankles and hands. Her joint pain was debilitating and kept her from her favorite pastime, riding horses. She used to raise horses and at one time had 30 horses. She also complained of pain, fatigue, restlessness, depression and being overweight. When she was first evaluated her energy was 4-5/10 (10 best) and she reported days when her energy was 0 out of 10. She slept 3-4 hours nightly, although she said that she would actually lie in bed for up to 8 hours each night. She suffered from insomnia, with difficulty falling asleep. Her stress had been quite high, which she rated a 9.5 out of 10 (10 worse) for the 4 to 5 years prior. Her goal was to feel well enough to ride horses again. She was also overweight and unable to drop the excess pounds.

She took the MetaCT 400™ test and her results revealed:

Low and low-normal amino acids

Elevated markers of inflammation

Elevated fasting insulin, indicating insulin-resistance and pre-diabetes and contributing to her inability to lose weight
Mineral deficiencies likely contributing to her inflammation

Omega-3 essential fatty acid deficiencies, likely contributing to her inflammation
Elevated ethylmalonate, indicating difficulty burning fat
Decreased ability to use sugars (sugars) to make cellular energy. Excess sugars are converted by the body into fat.
Elevated formiminoglutamate, indicating functional folic acid deficiency
Elevated D-Arabinitol, indicating intestinal fungal infection

This woman was provided dietary and exercise recommendations to help her lose weight. She was referred to a physical trainer to put her on a therapeutic exercise program. She also began taking specific dietary supplements to correct her nutritional deficiencies, eliminate the infection, and improve her ability to burn her sugars and fats for energy. While on the program her joint pain resolved, her energy increased, her food cravings for sugar were decreased, her insomnia went away, and she began to finally lose weight after years of frustrations.
